Is there any1 out there who could put to rest a question ive always asked myself. I've always had a keen intrest on nature and wildlife and ofcoarse the myths and mysterious that surround them (big foot, Lochness monster) I would like to know is it possible for animals to grow to gigantic sizes? Like some human beings that get a tumor on the part of the brain that causes excessive growth (7-8ft tall) has any animal ever had this?

There are still some animals and insects classed as giants of there species, but as for nessy im sorry thats a tourist prank that was debunked years ago, bigfoot is another matter theres a lot of good eye witnesses but nothing ever caught yet but there are reasons u cant catch it, if u research ancient monsters some of there seem plausable others maybe mis-interpreted. {Ed001's Note - Nessie hasn't been debunked, though it is extremely unlikely to be true, it is still perfectly possible for a sea creature to enter the loch and leave it without being observed.}

Agree2 Disagree0

As far as Nessie goes nothing can leave the loch. A loch is like a lake it has nothing flowing into it? It is believed it used to have a river flowing into it but during the ice age it became enclosed and became a loch trapping a sea creature from the ice age era? {Ed001's Note - not true, there are a number of entrances underwater, that has been the whole reason that it has never been completely debunked. You do realise that a lake is fed by rivers or streams right?}

I think there could have been a sea monster there once but i think it's probably dead by now. Weren't gorillas considered to be a myth at one point? I think very soon a Bigfoot/Sasquatch could become a recognised animal

Like lp gorillas were considered extinct years ago and panda bears,i seen some program last week and the found a new colony of silverback gorillas in africa what amazed the experts was the numbers, 3 thousand gorillas were found , something that big and was not found before, i do believe in bigfoot to many sightings around the world and the patterson tape,as for nessie i am open minded , they have done the sonar scan and found nothing but they also admitted there are probably prehistoric caves under the loch , i need more proof to be convinced thou.

The river ness runs into Loch Ness via another loch, and that runs all the way from the North Sea

My theory on Nessie, and most lake monsters.....

Forget giant prehistoric reptiles, what are being seen are either very large salamander type creatures, or....wait for it....giant, unknown molluscs.

Read up on some of the earlier reports of Nessie, seen on land.

Several describe it nothing like a plesiosaur - it has been described (same goes for several other lake creatures - Tasek Bera in Malaysia, a few in USA) as a large, grey, rough-looking mass, moving like a slug or similar (you know when a snail crawls forward, and it's as if the entire body is rippling towards the front, creating the movement).

Other reports, from near lakes in the U.S particularly, have noted what seemed to be a large grey thing, with folds of skin, slopping across roads towards bodies of water. Comparisons have been made to an octopus crossing a small stretch of land.

Also, note how many lake monster sightings worldwide, mention horns, or nodules, on the small, often featureless head.

Champ in Lake Champlain, has had several witnesses claim this, among other lake monsters (Tasek Bera, for one, I'm sure Nessie has too?)

Sound like a snail's head?

Wouldn't a giant mollusc like a hypothetical unknown, giant water snail....live in the mud on the bed of a lake? Only venturing to the surface on occasion?

I like this idea!

Do you have any links RED_SKY, I'm not really sure what to google to find these creatures

The sightings Im on about are mainly in books I've bought off Amazon, some in encyclopedia type books listing hundreds of cryptids from around the world.

The creature in Lake Tasek Bera I mentioned is called Ular-Tedong, I remember that one but many I'd have to grab the books for!

If I think of anymore I'll pop on. Google 'nessie sightings on land', the sighting(s) Im thinking of are from the 60s or 70s. Big, crawling grey mass with a neck of sorts, indistuingishable head, shuffling and making weird noises rippling along like a slug! Weird but interesting reading.

I can remembering reading about Nessie and the author was convinced that it is in fact a giant sea snake.
