question for matt_rfc, frankyscouse any other regulars and the editors. What would you replace the monarchy with? I'm not a monarchist but i'm yet to see any real alternative. We tried a republic once. It failed. Maybe it was too early but i see the same outcome again. People are too conditioned to accept the status quo. The familiar is comfortable. The major danger i see to the royalists is a federal europe but as the euro crisis shows europe doesn't work. I can't see many people wanting to be just a region in the united states of europe. Also how would a republican britain work? Personally i couldn't stomach the thought of president and first lady blair. Same as i couldn't stomach president cameron either. I think the political elite have proved their untrustworthiness. But what amateur would we thrust greatness upon? {Ed001's Note - that is a damn good question, so far humanity has failed to come up with a working solution to leadership.}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Do we really need an alternative?i would imagine no royal family would make no difference to me other than not having to watch them flaunt their huge wealth on tv every week.time for change.

Dictator lol {Ed001's Note - to be fair, a benign dictatorship is a good way to get things done and it does work. The problem is that power corrupts and a benign dictatorship very rarely stays benign.}

Agree3 Disagree0

The problem is that in principle most forms of government are great but the major flaw with them is men. We are greedy, corruptible etc. Look at Communism and Fascism supposedly two polar opposite on the political spectrum, but in our world they turn out to be the same thing. The problem is that the few good men get weeded out, read Profiles In Courage by JFK it shows you what happens to good men in politics.

Im not delluded, there will never be a change, but I will give you the best option I can think of - It would be better if the PM actually had power, right now he doesnt he is at the mercy of the queen and the bank of england. I think we should have to vote, but you could pick anyone, and I mean anyone so the PM would have actual power and would be chosen by the people, and it goes without saying that in this ideal world the voting system would be pure and honest. The govenment would issue its own money backed by genuine assets instead of borrowing it off you know who at a large proffit (youknow, like JFK was going to do before the federal res erm sorry I mean, a crazed gunman shot him). Theres a famous saying by Napolean it goes something like "When a government relies on banks for money the govenment is not in control of the situation for it is the hand that gives which is above the hand that receives" this is so true! And before anyone says its ridiculous and we'd end up with Beckham or someone daft as PM I will say this, they cant do a much worse job than those persons are doing now. Also something would have to be done about the press/propaganda. I know they have started with the phone haking arrests etc but I/we know that theres something going on here and its not going to change anything at the top end, the press is very powerfull and the people at the elite end in the press world are very powerfull I feel, that would have to change. I could go on and on but thats the rough outline of it, let the slating of me commence lol :) p.s also on a sub not, what about a salary/earning/wealth cap no one should be able to buy a football club with their loose change

I don't think we are quite ready yet for a drastic change to the hierachy of society. British monarchy shifted towards presidential monarchy in the US under the notion of 'democracy' but it has been manipulated to favour the ruling classes. Soviet and Chinese communism created the 'politburo' monarchy (ie Zil lanes for the chosen few).
Only a fundamental change in humanity's mindset, values and understanding is capable of creating the necessary change.
Darwinists out there will realise it takes millenia.
Religionists pray it will come sooner. Ufologists think it will arrive on a spaceship.

Tough question, i am not a royal lover myself, better the devil u know? or jimmy boyle lol

ed001, why did you not post my reply about all the amazing things we have invented even though I only named a few, and by coming out of the dark ages I actually ment the Industrial revolution.
tj {Ed001's Note - and you were talking utter crap, wasting my time with lies about them being all about Britain. You are clearly in need of spending some time learning the truth about what actually happens. You seem to think that those things were all invented purely because of Britain, utter madness if you do! I bet you really believe Marconi invented the telephone don't you? You do realise he merely patented an invention that had been around for years?}

Matt_RFC... just a small point out you mentioning beating up the indians & africans for tea and sugar. Tea is from china which we nicked and cultavated in india as it was very expensive and sugar is originally from india don't get the point with africa??. also if your not pround of the country you come from who will be, if we all thought like you we would be moping round about all the nasty things we have done over the history of mankind. we moved the world on from the dark ages and we should be proud not ashamed, we could all go back to living in caves, maybe that would ease your guilt about being british. And as far as the Olympics are concearned, I can't believe anyone would be upset about someone dedicating their life to their sport and getting support from their own country when the games are held there.

tj {Ed001's Note - Britain did not move the world on from the Dark Ages at all, what are you on about? Even forgetting the fact that the so-called Dark Ages were not that dark for anyone but the Catholic Church, who named them such because they lost control of indoctrination, sorry I mean education.}

Believable4 Unbelievable3

We took over India for mainly for tea, and we enslaved africans and made them work untill death in Jamaca etc for sugar. As for "moping about", I dont, I just dont look on with admiration at landed gentry who rule over us without deserving to do so. i guess Im trying to say I wish this country was a republic. If anyone is proud of the royal family and think they do a "fantastic job" then thats fine, go buy your limited edition jubilee tea cups, I hope you enjoy it, I hope it makes you feel happy and I hope you get your moneys worth :)

Ed001, steam power, diesel engine, internal combustion enginephone, the jet engine, the internet, the first metal ship, the pencil, radio, television, solar panels, pocket calculator, carbon fiber....i could just go on and on. Maybe you think we would be better of without these inventions. and by dragging the world out of the dark ages i mean the industrial revolution. {Ed001's Note - and none of these were British only inventions, in fact most weren't British. The jet engine was invented in Germany, the internal combustion engine, again Germany, you are just so wrong it is a waste of time.}

Totally agree with Matt,the royal family make me sick,on the news yesterday the queen driving out of balmoral in her 80.000 range rover followed by another 3 80,000 range rovers,RAF helicopter to take the queens nazi husband 50 miles to hospital but were unable due to bad weather,how much did that cost the struggling tax payer?makes me sick,they do nothing but leech of hard working Brits and then rub your nose in it with shows of wealth.....worse than benefits cheats....

Agree9 Disagree0

I dont know about the dark ages but am i the only one that wouldnt mind being back on a horse and cart?

You do realise that the economy benefits from the Royal family more than its hurt dont you. The money from people visiting London/England with the sole purpose of seeing the Queen or visiting the palace etc is way more than they cost the UK tax payer.

SMZ {Ed001's Note - and you know this because the media tells you so, even though there is no proof that those people wouldn't have visited anyway.}

Agree0 Disagree1

The Royal family together are arguably the biggest land owners on earth and the crown jewels could buy an unimaginable amount of hospitals, and treatment or sports facilities for kids. You wont convince me that theyre doing our economy a favour. When a person is on the BBC for instance, and they are entitled "royal expert" or something else cringeworthy, my daft brain automatically changes their title to "propaganda merchant". Now Im not one of those who think that anything and everything is a conspiricy, Im not into the ufo stuff (allthough I do think the universe is so big its probable) or lizard bloodlines, but I do think she probably knew about 911 and probably gave it the nod as to me they are just one of the few gangster families that dictate what goes on. I just see people who love the Queen or any Royals as completely deluded, to me the are an ignoble affront to equality in this day and age and I can see It now, there's going to be a funeral soon for the racist one, and people will be lining the streets crying and waving a flag as they mourn someone who wouldnt give them the steam off his p**s.

Britain looted all money from its colonies....the only reason it is advanced and industrialized and a 1st world country is because of its colonies.
does anyone know the extent of natural wealth in india before it got colonized?
it would have been the richest country in the world and by a far extent?
britain still owes its colonies for putting them in a third world country status?

Agree0 Disagree0

What has changed? the empire ceased because of war, the u s of a thrives on war, to the victors comes the spoils, the british empire became to big to govern so where at the mercy of the banks, they had to down size thus all the sh@t that is happen in the world, what goes round etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats my point all allong nothing changes it just gets called or labeled something else. For the last 200 years theyve been "waring" to keep the gravy train rolling
