maybe not the best place to ask this question but its the place with the knowledgeable people. But does anyone know anything about proposed changes to the council tax system? I've heard rumours about them charging more if you have spare rooms. Like say in a three bedroom council house but only two bedrooms are in use. There's rumours of them charging more for the spare room. Anyone heard anything of this?

{Ed033's Note - This maybe a possible housing benefit cut under certain circumstances if you have a spare bedroom in your council or housing association home.

K cheers Ed, any further info or suggestions where to check it out?

{Ed033's Note - You could phone your local council and say you'd like to speak to someone about council tax

I have been told that, would not surprise me at all, i dont suppose i could get a rebate since i have 3 bedrooms and there is me the wife and three kids?

It sounds to me like a different way of trying to acheive what they were trying to do before but it fell through, there are a lot of for instance 3 bedroom council houses with 1 couple living in them like when the kids have grown up and left home and an old couple see out their days in the same house but with two empty rooms. They wanted a legislation the force you to move into a 1 bedroom to free up space as the council house waiting list is massive. To be honest I agree with it, a lot of young families cant get a mortgage at the minute and theres thousands of 3/4 bedroon council houses being occupied by couples or single parents for upto 50 years after the other spare rooms have been vacated.

{Ed033's Note - 1 million properties in Britain lie empty. 350,000 of these, for over 6 months. And yet, 2 million families need a home.

Matt i don't agree, my mum lives in a council house for around 40 years we have all left and my died died about 9 years, she has tried to down size to either a 1 bedroom bungerlow or somewhere nearer me or my sisters , they will only offer her a run down flat in a dodgy part of liverpool, plus also the desirable parts off the city the council will sell there houses if say a tenant leaves/dies etc etc
its just a money making scheme and will prob increase chav families to have more kids instead of paying something towards the rent.

Yes this is true they are doing it here in n.wales after 2012 and will be charging 16-18 pound per room per week.

Yeh my grans the same franky, shes on her own now and thes in a 3 bedroom with a good size garden abd shes been there nearly 60 years, they offered her a nice bungalow but she feels like the house shes in is her house and wont move, you have certain rights as a tennent after so long even if a landlord wants to spend a fortune making a house nice they cant if the tenant doesnt want it, there are some funny laws.

Yes I saw that programme ed, its pretty stupid really they should let them go to creditable developers or housing associations. I think sometimes you have to have your common senseremoved before you are allowed into a position of authority in this country.

Has anyone else noticed the large amount of army recruitment adverts on the radio the last few days? heard the same ad at least 6 times today. seems a bit strange with the recent cut backs and job losses in the forces. preparation for another war?what does everyone think?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

They seem to be targeting school leavers what with the gcse results announced yesterday.

Of course taking on a load of teenagers means that they don't have to pay as much in wages just the minimum amounts.

At the same time the jobs they are cutting are the more experienced and thus more highly paid men in the mid 30's and over.

So thats all there doing, cutting experienced men on higher wages and replacing them with lower paid younger men who can be trained up.

Nothing sinister no war plans or anything, just Torie economics.

That sound about right?

Agree3 Disagree0

Thought school leavers were 18 now unless that hasn't come in yet i know it affects my children {Ed001's Note - you used to be able to join the army at 16, I forget what it was called, Junior Leaders, possibly.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember those recruitment officers on ferenheight 911 ? They were deffo targeting young kids in poor neighbourhoods.

You can join the army at 16 but you end up doing an nvq and training for about 6 months or you can join the real army like i did at 16 and 10 months, you dont get paid adult pay or starting working towards your 22 year pension until you are 18 though (they dont tell you that until you are in!), what a con!
