Hi ed pretty sure you don't believe about flat earth. Neither do I but every now and then I watch a video which gets me thinking. I've now seen a few about fake direct flights which either get cancelled or no plane or passengers can be found at airports. Just wondered what your thoughts and anyone else's was regarding this matter and flight paths which don't make any sense on a globe.

{Ed033's Note - We're told that the Earth is spinning at 1000 miles an hour. Try working out how long it should take you to reach a location 1000 miles away at 500 mph with the Earth spinning towards you and then try working out how long it should take you to reach a location 1000 miles away at 500 mph with the Earth spinning away from you.

Now if you look at how long it really takes in a plane ride, you'll find it doesn't work out as above.

I think you'll find that everything within the Earths radius is bound by gravity, which means everything with in the Earths radius, is traveling with the Earth.

If you let go of a Helium balloon on a completely still day (no wind), it's not going to disappear behind you at 1000mph, it's going to just go up.

Flight paths are to designed to evade as much turbulent air as possible. It may look like you can just fly from A to B, but you will need to go via C, because the air pressure is vastly different. To explain it further, I'd need to understand climatology a bit more but that's the very basics.

{Ed033's Note - it's all a guess, even from 'academic' sources.

I get what you are saying hsf. But I am talking about people that are saying that you can't fly from a to b as the flights don't exist even though the air lines say they do. Plus when emergency situations arise the flight paths which are taken make no sense whatsoever. Or just refuelling at point c.

Evening all,

I consider myself pretty open minded but I do struggle with the flat earth theory. Although, it is very interesting. I have a mate who's a 'militant' flat earther. Some of what he says begs a lot of questions but I do struggle to make the leap.

I would love to hear as many peoples opinions and reasons for or against flat earth as possible. Ideally without having to put up with any shouting, swearing, insults and drunken ranting, which is how this subject normally ends with my mate.

I remember someone on here, a while back, mentioning there are things/ islands/ structures in the oceans that aren't on our publicly viewed maps or globes. Could this be why planes don't fly direct to some of the destinations mentioned in the video? I admit, I'm baffled by it.

It's a very intriguing subject.

Ok, so I was flying to America when I was 13, going to Orlando Florida. But we have to go via Cleveland (not even in the remote area of Florida) We did this because we hit what's known as an "Air pocket", which made the plane freefall for about 6,000 feet. It was genuinely scary, but it happens. The reason we got diverted was to avoid any more of that.

They make sense when you look into the climatology side.

{Ed033's Note - You have to watch the video hsf not assume you know the answer is "Air pockets".

And no guys, Joe Rogan is not a shill, he's not a misinformation agent and he's NOT being paid to say all of this.
He became educated and realised that what he was believing was completely fictional.

Ed, I'm not ignoring the video, I'm giving a personal anecdote about why my flight was diverted.

The video doesn't have any evidence anyway, it's all hypothetical and misinformed.

It also makes it even more laughable, when the Flat Earth believers announce they are not religious, but then fail to realise that the Flat Earth movement started as a religious movement against Science thanks to the Book of Genesis.

Video's like this remind me of that time that Rapper went on top of a Hill and said he shouldn't be able to see Manhattan from there, but he could.
He failed to take into consideration that anything above 15 stories high would negate the natural curve of the planet, because it rises above it. But could he see the actual land mass of Manhattan Island? Nope, which is what the curvature states.

This website is a website which is dedicated to the Himawari 8 Satellite, it orbits around the Earth at a distance of over 20,000 miles and takes pictures of the Earth in full every 10 minutes. No, it's not fake

This is the launch coverage of said Satellite. go to 29:50 to see the actual launch.

Not quite sure what your diverted flight has to do with the flat earth conversation?

Rian, he mentioned about strange flight paths and diversions which "don't make sense". So I explained my experience of a flight being diverted and why.

{Ed033's Note - The original post was about flights being diverted thousands of miles out of their flight path for no good reason, which doesn't make sense if correct. What you should have done hsf is debunked these thousands of miles diversions. instead you side tracked the original post with a reply about air pockets, which is insignificant to the original post.

p1, it is a fascinating subject when you introduce the apparent anomalies with some flights.

I came across an interesting site that claims to debunk the flat earth theories. You might find it worth a look. All the best.

{Ed033's Note - Thanks Rian.

The other part about this was if some flights are fake what do the flight operator's gain from offering flights what don't exist? And also I think this video touches on the detours not making sense on a globe but makes sense on the flat earth model. Not that I believe the flat earth stuff but sometimes the things they bring up can be interesting.

Yeah thanks rian interesting.

My wife has flown both QF27 and QF28 in the last 6 months, this one appears to be untrue.
