Military coup in Turkey.

The second biggest army in NATO have stood down its government. Where's this going?
Reports of exchanges between police and army.
The bug question is who the military see their allegiance with? West or other.

It's hard to believe with Turkey being such a prominent member of the NATO army that UK / USA had no prior knowledge.

TTTS
Or have they?

Depends. It's only a faction of the army. Also Turkey isn't the most trusted member of nato.

Extraordinary night. Civilians pouring onto the streets. No popular support for coup it seems.

Iran had closed it's border with Turkey.

Shame. Erdogan is someone the world be better off without.

Airforce and navy seem to be backing government not army. Still no statement from NATO.

Wow, one way to stop a coup, Erdogan knew how, to get civilians involved and set them up against the coup. Imo, terrible thing to do, I. e when all else fails, send in your own people. if anything was to happen to them, the military personnel involved in the coup would be treated as terrorist, he's got it worked out,

{Ed001's Note - they don't normally object to slaughtering civilians, they have been committing genocide to the Kurds for decades now.}

If you watch some videos the army are been very reluctant to kill civilians although some were killed st the bridge. They could have slaughtered all the people hanging on their tanks. I think once the people turned the coup was never going to be a success .

Irony. President who shuts down media and free speech and protests used social media to urge people onto the streets to protest.

Personally I think he was behind it himself and now is in a stronger position, knows who is loyal and I weeding out the disloyal.

It certainly could be the case Kim. He now has an excuse to murder and jail his enemies.
The coup itself seems to have carried no real clout but the repercussions will be evident for some time.
Can't help but think western secret services and Mossad are all over this too thou.

If I was a betting woman I'd lean more towards GRU.
